From bridges to computer chips to rocket-propelled aircraft—engineers make our world go round. No matter their specialty, all engineers have one thing in common; they apply the principles of math and science to develop solutions to technical problems. Here at AEG, we are recognizing the engineers in our lives during this year’s National Engineers Week!
History of National Engineers Week
National Engineers Week, also known as EWeek, was founded in 1951 by the National Society of Professional Engineers. This year it runs from Sunday, February 21 through Saturday, February 27. EWeek is dedicated to fueling the engineering workforce by increasing interest in and understanding of engineering and technology careers.
Honoring the Nation’s First Engineer
You may not have noticed, but EWeek includes the birthday of our first president, and that’s not a coincidence. The observance was created with George Washington in mind because he is actually considered the nation’s first engineer.
Before he was a Revolutionary War general or the Father of Our Country, President George Washington was a land surveyor who mapped out many of the county boundaries in northern Virginia. He established property lines and straight roads through rugged terrain, the essential skills associated with modern-day civil engineering. We’ve come a long way since then—at AEG, we work with subcontractor engineers in the newer fields of electrical, computer and mechanical engineering.
Goals of EWeek
Fast forward to 2021 and EWeek is now recognized by more than 50 corporations and government agencies. Its goals are simple:
- Raise public awareness of engineers’ quality of life contributions
- Emphasize the importance of math and science among teachers and parents
- Motivate the nation’s youth to pursue STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) careers
Recognizing our Engineers
Engineers are essential to the work that we do at AEG. From electrical engineers to energy efficiency engineers, we would not be able to offer you energy solutions without their tireless work.
It’s a team effort. Once we visit your facility and our trained energy assessors propose turnkey energy savings solutions, our AEG subcontractor engineers provide lighting upgrades, HVAC upgrades and more.
